Jonathan Mark Centeno was born in 1978 in the beautiful and culturally diverse city of Toronto, Canada. Although he was surrounded by the richness of the city, Jonathan spent much of his childhood admiring nature’s tapestry on his father’s farm. Nature captivated Jonathan with it's illustrious changes in every season. These images would later be the basis for his textural, bright canvases , but it was Jonathan’s father who first urged him to capture these moments, first on paper, then eventually on canvas. This was the beginning of his relationship with art.
It was in high school where he was granted serious consideration of art as a way of life. This is also where he first met an art teacher Pietro Adamo, whose inspiration would allow Jonathan to expand his creativity and explore his passion for abstract art. First, however, he would go on to receive an Illustration Diploma from Sheridan College which offered him the opportunity to work as an Illustrator/Graphic Designer for several fortune 500 companies.
During the time that Jonathan worked as an Illustrator, his first love of creative experimentation on canvas was rekindled. Yet, it was a chance encounter with his former teacher, which reinforced this longing and persuaded Jonathan to begin painting again. Jonathan now paints the landscapes that surround him, from the serene forests of rural Ontario to the urban landscape of Toronto. All these inspire him to continue his creative pursuit of art.
